THE STUDY OF SKID RESISTANCE FOR ROAD SURFACE AT LEBUH AMJ (FT19) MELAKA

This study is carried out to identify the skid number based on skid resistance value (SRV) and macro texture depth (MTD) at Lebuh AMJ (FT19) which is from Telok Mas to Merlimau. Skid resistance is the force developed when a tire that is prevented from rotating slides along the pavement surface. It is the most important characteristic of the road pavement. The objective of this project are to determine SN values on skid resistance and to identified the level of accident risk based on Skid Resistance. This research is done by British Pendulum and Sand Patch by the SN, MTD and SRV value on wet and dry road surface. At the end of this study, it is found that most of the value show a medium to high risk probability of accident can be happen due to skid resistance on wet road condition compared with dry condition. Therefore, the data were obtained based on two types of tests which is British Pendulum and the Sand Patch Method on two types of road conditions, wet and dry. Based on the two tests that have been performed these Skid Number (SN) values, Macro Texture Depth (MTD) and Skid Resistance Value (SRV) are known. The Skid Number (SN) values for the two road conditions which is wet and dry are different. In addition, the risk of accident rate can be determined based on the Skid Number (SN) value obtained. The recommendation will be served after finding the conclusion based on the data collected. The recommendation is also made with a discussion with authorities JKR and Selia selenggara for better result.
